PARENT COLLABORATION: STRENGTHENING BONDS

Why Parent Collaboration Matters

‘Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.’ — Ryunosuke Satoro

Parent Collaboration in schools has become essential in the present-day education system. It is not only instrumental in ensuring overall success of students but also helps in fostering a positive learning environment, thereby strengthening the school community.

We, at Adamas International School, recognise the importance of working together as a cohesive team, where parents and teachers join hands in paving the way for our children’s academic and social development.

Why Parent Collaboration Matters

Today, parental involvement in their children’s education goes beyond attending parent-teacher meetings. Parents are now more actively involved in various other ways like supporting homework, co-operating with the school in addressing the learning needs of the children and participating in different school events – all of which helps in strengthening the bond between the children, parents and teachers.

Here are some reasons as to why parent collaboration is essential:

  1. When parents are actively involved, students show improved academic results. They understand the importance of education, which further motivates them to achieve better grades and scores.
  2. A conducive parent-teacher partnership provides a support system that nurtures the students’ emotional and social well-being. This sense of stability and encouragement contributes to better self-esteem, social skills and resilience.
  3. Collaboration creates a space for faster and easier communication between parents and teachers regarding a child’s progress. This ensures early identification and resolution of a child’s academic or behavioural issues, leading to a positive and constructive school climate.
  4. Parent collaboration helps build a strong school community that fosters a culture of shared responsibility and mutual respect. The involvement of parents in various school activities and events provides parents a deeper understanding of their child’s education and helps in meeting educational goals.

Strategies for Effective Parent Collaboration

By prioritising parent collaboration, schools can create a more dynamic and effective educational experience for all students. Some of the ways in which this can be achieved are:

  1. Establish Regular and Open Communication Channels
  2. Encourage Parent Volunteering for Classroom and Extra-curricular Activities
  3. Organise Orientation Programmes, Workshops and Interactive Sessions for Parents
  4. Celebrate Cultural Diversity and Encourage Inclusivity

Impact on Students

A robust school-parent collaboration system engenders holistic development in students, who not only show academic progress but also develops a sense of security and well-being. Vital lessons in teamwork, communication and respect are inculcated among students, and such values are carried within them life-long.

Parent-School Collaboration: The Adamas Edge

Adamas International School organises frequent parent-teacher-student meets and sessions to optimise parental collaboration. From orientation programmes to interactive sessions and events, our parents, students and teachers have wholeheartedly come together to contribute towards building a stronger school community.

Students of the pre-primary section (Nursery, KG and Upper KG) along with their enterprising parents came together to showcase their creativity, talent and teamwork through a number of collaborative fun activities on 22nd November, 28th November and 5th December’24. This was the second successful collaboration this academic session.

Our parents, students and teachers bonded over unique hands-on activities that ranged from Non-fire cooking to Thank-you card-making to making of Christmas decorative items using recycled and upcycled materials, while creating long-lasting memories. Our students learnt the importance of making healthy food choices; preserving our home and planet as well as expressing love and gratitude for all that we have in our lives.

Conclusion

Parent collaboration in school encompasses ongoing effort, mutual respect and a shared vision for student progress. Through such partnerships, children are better equipped to reach their true potential, academically and beyond.

Adamas International School is happy to embrace the four Cs – collaboration, communication, creativity and co-operation as the cornerstones of education, as we believe in Henry Ford’s notion, ‘Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success’.
